How to use a teleprompter on Windows

01

Open cameraprompter.app

Any modern browser works. Prefer a dedicated window? Install it as an app from the browser menu, or grab the desktop app - same product, same account.

02

Snap the window under your webcam

Drag the browser to the top of your monitor so the text scrolls right below the camera. On a laptop, shrink the window height to bring the words closer to the lens.

03

Load your script and read

Your camera feed sits behind the words, the green line marks your place, and the speed is yours - or let Pro’s voice scroll follow your pace.

One answer for webcam videos, capture cards, and second screens

Most Windows teleprompter software wants a download, a license key, and a manual. CameraPrompter wants a browser tab. That’s the whole setup — which matters when the hard part of recording isn’t the tooling, it’s pressing record.

It scales up with your gear, too. Filming through a mirrorless camera on an Elgato Cam Link or another capture card? The camera overlay and Pro’s in-browser recorder treat it like any other webcam. Running a dual-monitor studio? Put the prompter on the screen nearest the lens, or cast it to a hood rig.

And if you present more than you record, the same window works as a notes prompter for Zoom and Teams calls — eyes on the lens while you walk through your points.

Frequently asked questions

Is there free teleprompter software for Windows?

Yes - CameraPrompter runs free in any browser on Windows, no installation required. The free plan includes the full prompter, camera overlay, adjustable speed, timers, and 5 cloud-synced scripts with no watermarks.

Do I have to install anything?

No. It runs in Edge, Chrome, or Firefox. If you want it as its own window with its own taskbar icon, you can install it as an app straight from the browser, or use the desktop app - both use the same account and scripts.

Does it work with OBS or a capture card?

Yes. Any camera Windows can see - a webcam, or a DSLR/mirrorless through a capture card - works as the overlay preview and, on Pro, the recording source. You can also keep recording in OBS and use CameraPrompter purely as the prompter.

Can I use it on two monitors?

Yes. Put the prompter window on whichever monitor sits closest to your camera, or cast the display to a separate prompter screen while you control it from your main one.
